“I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep and am known by My own.” John 10:14
What a powerful truth: the God of the universe not only knows us—He claims us as His own. In a world that often feels noisy, uncertain, and unstable, the image of Jesus as our Shepherd is a firm anchor of peace.
The role of a shepherd is deeply personal. A shepherd is not a distant overseer but one who lives among the flock. He knows each sheep by name. He walks with them, guards them, provides for them, and lays down His life to protect them. The sheep, in turn, learn to recognize their shepherd’s voice. They are not led by force, but by trust and relationship.
Jesus reminds us that His care for us is not natural—it’s supernatural. He’s not merely tending to our basic needs. He is leading us with divine precision, aware of every bend in the path ahead, even when we cannot see what’s next.
King David beautifully captured this relationship in Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I have all that I need!” David had known the wilderness. He’d known fear and betrayal, highs and lows—but in all things, he found confidence in knowing who was guiding his steps.
When we follow the Good Shepherd, we walk in assurance. Whether He’s leading us through green pastures and still waters, or allowing us to pass through valleys shadowed by death, we can rest in His presence. We can trust that He is not just near, but actively comforting, correcting, and carrying us when needed.
He is the cure to every anxious thought about tomorrow. The unknowns don’t unsettle Him. Our fears don’t rattle Him. He is the only true source of rest, restoration, and righteousness.
Jesus also declares in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”
In this season, may His voice be louder than all others. Louder than fear. Louder than doubt. Louder than the noise of the world or the whisper of the enemy. May you hear Him clearly, and follow Him confidently.
Let this be your daily reminder: You are not wandering. You are not lost. You are not alone. He has anointed you, provided for you, and His goodness and mercy are not behind you trying to catch up—they are actively following you all the days of your life.
He is the Good Shepherd. And you are His.
